In our continuing effort to keep clients and the public aware of what is going on with the current reform efforts to the Workers' Compensation Act in this State, here is a recent article from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from 5/26/11, indicating that on 5/25/11, Representative Bradley's bill (SB 1933 - to abolish the Workers' Compensation Act) was brought up for a vote before the house committee and will be brought to the floor for a vote if no reform is otherwise agreed upon quickly. All sides of the aisle are said to wish to reach a decision on reform before the legislature adjourns on May 31, 2001. Stay tuned to our blog for more updates!
Illinois moves a step closer to abolishing worker's compensation system

To pass such a bill would be a stab in the back for the Illinois Worker. And anyone who knows better shouldn't vote for their congressman who considers to vote on passing this bill. Doctors help the sick, and never should be put in a place to decide on your compensation for loss of work, or even what the future holds. I have met more physicians who only have a positive attitude on how well you are going to be, even if you are dying. They always want to have the highest ratings in patient cures, and not for what you can do in the future for work. It's like trying to put sadness on Mr. Happy go Lucky. It just won't work. So without the attorneys will we be petitioning the federal courts now? And how long will that take? I say vote no to this bill.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous....I certainly agree that the consequences of such a revised Act would have significant negative ramifications to the everyday worker who might fall victim of an injury on the job. I would strongly encourage you or any other persons to contact their legislator ASAP...as they are voting on these revisions as we speak and are attempting to have the bill passed before the end of May. Thank you for your comments and thoughts.
